Things to do – on site

A Luccombe Holiday is what fond memories are made of!

Isn’t it wonderful to see your children happy and worn out after a day of carefree holiday fun? Excitedly talking about the day’s adventures and planning together what experiences are in store for tomorrow. A stay at Luccombe Farm combines an authentic working farm experience – interacting and learning about animals, with fun activities that will keep your little ones amused all day, every day during their holiday.

Situated in an idyllic valley in the Dorset countryside, we have created a family-friendly haven where there are so many activities that will keep both grown-ups and children happily occupied.

We have been included in the Guardian’s Top 10 Farm Stays in the UK and our mission is always to ensure you go home with rosy cheeks and fond memories of your stay.

Luccombe Farm highlights

Swimming pool, sauna and gym

Rain or shine, we’ve got activities to suit all seasons and all weathers. Our leisure facilities are open all-year-round and are wheelchair accessible. Come in and splash around in our heated indoor pool.

There is also a sauna, table tennis and a gym with machines, weights, mats and fitballs.

Meet the animals

Luccombe is a working farm where you can enjoy daily encounters with our friendly donkeys, goats and ducks. You can also feed the fish!

To meet and help feed even more animals, including Shetland ponies, pigs and alpacas, contact Henri at The Luccombe Hub, which is a charity based on the farm. Feeding is at 10am on weekends and during school holidays only. Prior booking is essential.

The Luccombe Hub also offers Alpaca walking (from £25/Alpaca). Please click here for more information.

Luccombe Riding Centre

Why not enjoy a riding lesson or countryside hack at the Luccombe Riding Centre which is located just at the farm entrance. They have an indoor arena and children over the age of four can partake in lessons and horseback excursions into the beautiful Dorset countryside.

We recommend you book well in advance as they get busy, especially at weekends and during the school holidays. More information.

Games galore!

When the day calls for indoor fun or you want to enjoy a relaxed afternoon onsite, head to the games room where you’ll find multiple games to keep grown-ups and children occupied.

The games room is wheelchair accessible and features a pool table, table football and a great selection of board games, books, puzzles, jenga, and dominoes. For younger guests there is a jumperoo and ride-on toys.

The fun moves outside …

Games continue as you head outdoors where you’ll find the giant chess set, croquet, swingball, badminton, boules and a selection of ride-on toys for our little guests.

And for an organic treat, we welcome you to pick fruit from our orchards (seasonal). You’ll find apples, pears, plums, greengages, cherries and figs.

Children’s Play Area

Little guests will love monkeying around in our children’s play area with a slide, swings, seesaw, spring horse, climbing area, and of course, monkey bars!

Fairy & Elf Door Hunt

Your children will delight in finding the little fairy and elf doors that we have hidden around the farm. Will you find them all? We’ve got a map and a clue sheet to help you out! It’s a great way to explore your surroundings and enjoy a fun family walk.

The doors are ‘open’ from Spring to Autumn and were designed and handmade by the talented David Shawley.

Game, set and match! Our secluded tennis court is open for guests to use all year round.

We have racquets and balls to use free of charge.

BBQ Area

Enjoy a relaxing drink at the water’s edge as the sun goes down, with the background music of running water from the wishing well in the pretty little summer house.

There are two fixed BBQ points with grills, a range of cooking utensils and a variety of plastic plates, bowls, mugs and cutlery.

Beautiful Walks

Step out of your cottage and there is a collection of walking trails in all directions. Luccombe is linked with a network of public paths, including the Dorset Jubilee Trail, which passes through our farm.

The pretty village of Milton Abbas is a 10 minute walk across our fields. Or we can provide maps and point you towards Milton Abbey or over towards Bulbarrow Hill, where you can enjoy the spectacular view over the Blackmore vale.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Clay pigeon shooting is a popular sport where the participant gets to shoot a flying target with a firearm. It’s a safe and fun activity that you can try your hand at during your stay.

We organise group sessions in the field behind the farmhouse which last approximately two hours, depending on the size of the group. Ask us for details when you book your stay.

During your visit there is the option for wet and dry fly fishing on a private lake and beautiful chalk stream river in Briantspuddle, just six miles south of Luccombe. Only suitable for experienced fly fishers. Please ask for details when you book your stay.

If you prefer coarse fishing, you can buy daily and weekly tickets for the River Stour at Conyers in Blandford.
